Job Title: Technical Sales Engineer (Western Division)
Reports To: Vice President Sales
Business Unit: Construction Products Group
Location: West Coast, Flexible, Home Office

Job Summary

Premier Construction Products Group (“CPG”), a division of Premier Magnesia, is currently looking for a Technical Sales Engineer to add to their fast-growing business unit. Ideally located on the West Coast in California, Oregon or Washington, this individual will be responsible for the sales efforts west of the Rocky Mountains in our Western Division. This individual will be expected to handle all aspects of the sale of our products: from project identification and tracking, engineer sales calls, developing relationships with ready-mix producers/contractors, and field support. Business development through water districts, engineering firms, DOTs, and applicable technical associations is the prime goal for this position. Focus will be on the PREVent-C family of shrinkage crack reducing admixtures, but may also include other products now under development.

Primary Duties

The Technical Sales Engineer will be responsible for managing and developing leads/accounts/sales on the west states of California, Oregon, Washington, Idaho, Montana, Wyoming, Utah, Nevada, Arizona and New Mexico. Specific duties include the following:

  • Conduct peer-to-peer sales meetings with engineer targets identified through the use of existing contacts, Dodge/MHC, technical associations, or other leads
  • Identify projects/accounts where Premier CPG’s products have a market advantage
  • Gain favorable inclusion of products into construction specifications of projects
  • Deliver presentations to engineers and owners on the technical validity and commercial advantage of utilizing admixtures for crack-reduction and durability
  • Assist in obtaining approvals from State DOTs for CPG products in the Western Division
  • Develop working relationships with local ready-mix producers and contractors
  • Provide field support on construction projects
  • Participate in regional technical associations, such as ACI and ICRI
  • Attend national and regional conventions/conferences as needed
  • Update VP Sales of all customer information, tasks, and actions
  • Assist VP Sales in developing forecasts for Western Division
  • Travel within Western Division territory as needed and approved by VP Sales

Knowledge and Skills

  • Basic knowledge of construction industry with emphasis on concrete
  • Working knowledge of concrete mix design, properties, test procedures
  • Sales, sales development acumen
  • Excellent verbal, written and presentation skills
  • Basic computer and MS Office skills including spreadsheets, PowerPoint presentations, and databases
  • Ability to collaborate virtually and through the use of shared documents, apps, etc. for internal purposes
  • Knowledge of concrete industry – markets, distribution channels, industry players, contacts, spec/bid/build process
  • Team player
  • Self-driven

Education and Experience

  • Minimum BS Engineering, Materials Science or related field
  • Formal civil/structural engineering education or experience a plus
  • 2-5 years of experience in sales of concrete admixtures or related products
  • Hands on experience in mixing and placement of cementitious products
  • Experience in concrete mix design, mix troubleshooting, admixture interaction, admixture feeding systems a plus
  • Interest in sales/business side of concrete industry along with ability to understand technical aspects as well
