Ask the Technical Director

You ask and we answer! MgWater Technical Director Matt Madolora offers solutions to common water treatment problems.

QUESTION: Does reducing hydrogen sulfide gas (H2S) in a wastewater system also solve corrosion problems?

ANSWER:On the surface, if all chemical products are able to reduce H2S at comparable levels, one might assume the answer is yes. But, of all the different chemistries a wastewater treatment facility can use to reduce H2S, THIOGUARD® is the only solution that can directly neutralize the sulfuric acid (H2SO4) that forms from H2S. Reducing or eliminating sulfuric acid will ultimately solve corrosion problems. And, in fact, facilities do not have to achieve as low a target level of H2S concentration with THIOGUARD as they do with other chemistries in order to dramatically reduce corrosion.
