Discovered in the 1920’s, the world-class mine in
Gabbs, Nevada, USA has continued to provide magnesia products for a huge range
of applications. The highly-reactive magnesium oxide (MgO) from Gabbs is
calcined with extreme precision for the highest quality and is extremely
effective in applications involving the removal silica from water.
When Steam Assisted Gravity Drainage (SAGD) is employed at
Oil Sand operations, the removal of silica from the spent water is an essential
part of day-to-day efforts.
Premier offers two products into these applications.
In addition to the Gabbs product, Premier also provides >98%
"synthetic" MgO made from well brine. This specialty adsorptive MgO
allows greater efficiency in many silica removal applications.
93 HR -325
This technical grade MgO has a purity of 93-94% and is
manufactured from naturally-occurring magnesite ore. It is milled to a fine
powder (97% -325 mesh) and delivered in pneumatic trailers or railcars. This material is typically a drop-in replacement for any other magnesium oxide
products made from mined ore.
This specialty grade MgO has a purity of 98.2% and offers a
high surface area of 65 m2/g. It is made from the precipitation of
high-magnesium well brine and has a typical particle size of 5 micron. Due to the higher reactivity, silica removal efficiencies can typically be
increased by 30% or more.
