Magnesia-based materials have been used in concrete and cementitious systems for many centuries. When used as an additive in conventional concrete, magnesia can significantly reduce shrinkage cracking, resulting in more durable structures.
Recent research and developments have further improved upon the available technologies, producing even more environmental and durability-related advantages of using magnesium-based additives. This environmental advantage in addition to superior effectiveness over traditional Portland cement applications make many of these products ideal candidates for many green building and LEED applications. Further developments in construction market applications based on the unique properties of magnesia technologies are currently in progress.
